Sibling Donor cord Blood Program

CorCell’s Sibling Donor Cord Blood Program is designed to provide a unique treatment option to families with children suffering from leukemia, many solid cancers, sickle cell disease, thalassaemia or other diseases which are indications for allogeneic (the donor and recipient are different individuals) stem cell transplantation. When a family with a child who might benefit from an allogeneic cord blood transplant is expecting another child, our program facilitates collection of the baby’s umbilical cord blood at the time of delivery. Thus, the Sibling Donor Cord blood Program does not require a disease stage where stem cell (bone marrow) transplantation is urgent.

CorCell is able to facilitate the collection of the umbilical cord blood in any hospital in the United States. After collection, CorCell will transport the cord blood by medical courier to our laboratory where it is processed and stored. The decision if and when the graft may be used in the treatment is entirely that of the sibling’s treating physician. If and when the cord blood specimen is needed for transplantation CorCell will ship the unit to the transplant center. This program is provided at no cost to the family.
