Getting Started

What to Expect

With CorCell, you can expect that the process of saving your baby's cord blood will be handled professionally, and with your best interests in mind at all times. Once we have received your enrollment forms, we will send your personalized umbilical cord blood collection kit.

The CorCell Process

Simple and Safe. CorCell makes collecting a baby's cord blood easy for parents and caregivers alike. The process is painless and risk-free to mother and child. It only takes three to five minutes immediately following the delivery of a baby.

The Highest Standards. Our preferred cord blood collection technology* makes it easy for obstetricians and midwives, freeing them to focus on caring for the newborn baby and mother. Our preferred cord blood collection bag is self-contained and easy to use. Alternative methods expose a baby's cord blood to increased risks of contamination during collection and processing.

The Collection Procedure. About 50 to 150 cc's of umbilical cord blood are collected. Upon completion, the delivery room nurse completes the collection and shipment instructions. The parents call our 24-hour toll-free number from the mother's bedside, and CorCell dispatches a medical courier who picks up the collection kit and delivers it directly to CorCell's private stem cell bank.

We make all the arrangements to have a newborn's precious cord blood stem cells delivered to our private facility within 36 hours of birth. All a new parent has to do is place one call, day or night. And with CorCell, there are never any hidden "rush" fees or mileage charges.

Processing and Storage. Upon arrival at our private stem cell bank, the cord blood is immediately processed and frozen in liquid nitrogen in a special, highly-controlled facility dedicated exclusively to long-term storage of cord blood.

* Our harvesting procedure utilizes a CPD blood bag similar to the one used by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute's (COBLT) Cord Blood Transplantation Study, all major public cord blood banks, and 9 out of 10 private cord blood banks. These results were compiled by a telephone/internet survey conducted in April 2000.

This advanced technology allows CorCell to provide an easy to perform, uncomplicated procedure, making it the right choice for those interested in getting the best stem cell collection while still concerned with the collector's safety and valuable time.
